Katy Geertsen
Katy is a dedicated professional dancer and dance educator who enjoys exploring every aspect of what dance and the arts can mean to individuals and communities around the world. She believes that dance and the arts can provide everyone with a means of expression, communication and a path to a healthier life. Katy graduated from Trinity Laban - Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, UK in 2011 with a first class BA (Hons) degree. She broadened her horizons in the Postgraduate LINK Dance Company at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in Perth, Australia. During her studies she focused on her belief that dance can provide a pathway to a healthier life for everyone. She worked with people who identify with a disability or suffer from social exclusion, was appointed rehearsal director of a dance company for older dancers and completed the Mark Morris Dance Group - Dance for PD®️ Teacher Training in 2015. Since then she has worked as a passionate Dance for Health teacher and facilitator in this field and brought her unique experience to Austria where she co-founded ARTS for HEALTH AUSTRIA (AfHA) in 2020. AfHA is becoming increasingly important to the arts and health sector in Austria and beyond. Katy continues to teach dance for young and old at the English Dance Academy and Tanz die Toleranz, supports the workshops and research department at ImPulsTanz and completed the Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning at Trinity College London with distinction in 2022.
